U.S. Weather Update 8.8.25

Summary:
Scattered severe thunderstorms may produce damaging winds, large hail, a tornado or two, and heavy rain across parts of the Upper Midwest, mainly this evening through Saturday. Very hot temperatures will continue through today across the Desert Southwest, which could break daily high temperature records. Impacted Lanes: I-94, I-29,  I-95, I-16, I-80, I-90


South Dakota
Flood Warning remains in effect until further notice.

  • Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
  • Impacts: Significant amounts of pasture and other agricultural lands will be flooded.

South Carolina
Flood Advisory remains in effect until tomorrow morning.

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Flooding occurs in flood-prone areas near and downstream from Columbia.  Flooding also occurs on parts of the Cayce and West Columbia river walk.

California
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM PDT this morning.

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.

North Dakota
Thunderstorm Warning remains in effect until this evening.

  • Wind gusts up to 50 mph and half-inch hail.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.  Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible.
