U.S. Weather Update 8.22.25

Summary:
A dangerous, record heat wave continues for the Desert Southwest and the Central Valley of California through Saturday, and the Pacific Northwest through Tuesday. Coastal flooding is expected through tonight at high tide along the Eastern Seaboard from Erin, while the high rip current risk and dangerous surf continue through the weekend. Flash flooding possible today in Georgia and South Carolina. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-40, I-20, I-95, I-85, I-75, I-26


South Dakota
Flood Warning remains in effect until further notice.

  • Urban area and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is occurring.  Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding.  Expect many areas of slow moving or standing water.  Local media have reported water rescues earlier this evening.

South Carolina
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 8:30 AM EDT this morning.

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. 

Georgia
Flood Watch remains in effect from 8 AM EDT this morning through late Saturday night.

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. 

Additional Flood Warnings include but are not limited to:  Iowa, Minnesota, North Carolina, South Carolina, Wisconsin, and Virginia
