U.S. Weather Update 8.19.25

Summary:
Tropical Storm conditions and coastal flooding are possible in the North Carolina Outer Banks beginning late Wednesday. Tropical Storm and Storm Surge Watches are in effect. Major Hurricane Erin is expected to bring life threatening surf and rip currents along the East Coast beaches this week. Hot to extremely hot temperatures continue across the Southern Plains and Mississippi Valley today. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-94, I-39, I-70, I-66, I-64, I-55, I-57, I-85, I-20.I-88, I-86.


North Carolina
Storm Surge Watch and Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect until further notice.

  • Equivalent Tropical storm force wind 35-45 mph with gusts to 55 mph.
  • Impacts: Roads are impassable from debris, particularly within urban or heavily wooded places.   Hazardous driving conditions on bridges and other elevated roadways.  Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor-drainage and low-lying areas.

Oklahoma
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 9:15 AM CDT this morning.

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor-drainage and low-lying areas.

Wisconsin
Flood Warning remains in effect until 10:15 AM CDT this morning.

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Creeks, streams, and rivers are at bankfull or flood stage.  Numerous roads are likely flooded and closed.  Low-lying parking lots, intersections, and ditches are likely flooded.

Illinois
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10:30 AM CDT this morning.

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Area rivers, streams, and creeks are rising or are above bankfull.  Areas of poor-drainage are likely flooded, including fields, parks, ditches, and low-lying intersections. 

Nebraska
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM CDT this morning.

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.

Wisconsin
Flood Watch remains in effect from late Tuesday night to early Thursday morning.

  • Flooding is possible.
  • Impacts: Water begins to cover roads near the river, including Sand Hill Road near Bell Center. Minor flooding occurs in areas adjacent to the river, including Robb Park in Gays Mills.
