U.S. Weather Update 12.31.25

Summary:

An Alberta clipper will bring lake effect snow downwind of the Great Lakes, with the highest snow totals downwind of Lakes Erie and Ontario. Snow squalls may impact New Year's Eve travel during the evening and overnight hours across parts of the Great Lakes, Ohio Valley, and Northeast. Heavy rain will bring a flash flooding threat for southern California on New Year's Eve into New Year's Day.
 
California
Winter Weather Warning remains in effect from Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon. 
  • Snow accumulations between 1 and 3 feet of snow above 5000 feet.
  • South winds could gust as high as 60 mph. 
Flood Watch remains in effect from this evening through Thursday evening.
  • Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. 
Michigan

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 AM Thursday. 

  • Snow accumulations between 2 to 4 inches.
  • Plan on slippery road conditions. 

Ohio

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 7 AM Thursday. 

  • Snow Accumulations between 8 to 15 inches. 
  • Winds gusting as high as 35 mph. 

Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect until 7 PM Thursday. 

  • Snow accumulations between 1 and 3 inches, with accumulations between 4 and 5 inches across the northern half of the area. 
  • Winds gusting as high as 45 mph creating considerable blowing and drifting snow. 

Pennsylvania

Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect until 7 PM Thusrday. 

  • Snow accumulations between 4 and 10 inches.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 4 PM this afternoon to 4 PM Thursday. 

  • Snow Accumulations between 2 to 4inches. 
New York
Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect until 7 AM Thursday.
  • Snow accumulations between 6 and 10 inches, with accumulations between 4 and 5 inches.
 Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon today. 
  • Snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches. 
  • Plan on slippery road conditions.
