U.S. Weather Update 12.17.25

Summary:

A powerful storm will shift from the Pacific Northwest across the Northern Plains today. Low elevation rain and mountain/Northern Plains snow will combine with high winds resulting in widespread impacts. Widespread damaging wind gusts of 50-70 mph are forecast across much of the Northwest U.S., Rockies, and Plains today. Elevated to critical fire weather expected in eastern Colorado today.
 

 

Washington

Flood Warning remains in effect until early Friday morning. 

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall.
  • Excessive runoff may result in flooding of the Skykomish and Skagit River.   

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 4 PM Wednesday afternoon. 

  • Southwest winds 30 to 45 mph with gusts between 75.   

Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from late Wednesday night through Friday night.

  • Heavy snow accumulations of 1 to 5 inches in valleys and up to 24 inches possible in the mountains.  
  • Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.    

Oregon

Flood Watch remains in effect from late Wednesday night through late Friday night. 

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall.

Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from late Wednesday night through Thursday evening.

  • Heavy snow accumulations of 2 to 4inches in valleys and up to 6 to 10 inches possible in the mountains.  
  • Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.    
 

Montana

Blizzard Warning remains in effect from 4 PM this afternoon through 6 AM Thursday.  

  • Heavy snow possible, with total accumulations of 1 to 3 inches.  
  • Winds gusting as high as 70 mph. 
  • Plan on slippery road conditions and drifting snow. 
North Dakota
Winter Storm Watchremains in effect from late tonight through Thursday evening.
  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations from 1 to 3 inches.
  • Winds could gust as high as 60 mph. 
  • Plan on snow-covered and slippery road conditions with reduced visibility.  
  •  
    Minnesota
     
    Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from late tonight through Thursday evening.
  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations from 4 to 6 inches, some spots may see 7 to 8 inches.
  • Winds could gust as high as 40 mph. 
  • Plan on snow-covered and slippery road conditions with reduced visibility.

    Additional High Wind Warning included but not limited to :  Montana, Idaho, Oregon, California, Nevada, Utah,  North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Nevada, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine.
