U.S. Weather Update 1.26.26

Summary:

A major winter storm will shift its impacts into the Northeast U.S. with heavy snow through tonight while over the Mid-Atlantic, sleet and freezing rain will diminish. Extremely cold air behind the storm will prolong dangerous travel and infrastructure impacts. Sub-zero low temperatures are expected nearly every morning from the Northern Plains through the Ohio Valley and into the Northeast.
 
 

New Mexico

Freezing Fog Advisory remains in effect until noon today.   

  • Visibility down to a quarter mile or less in freezing fog.

Alabama

Flood Warning remains in effect until late tomorrow morning. 

  • Minor flooding is forecast. 

Michigan

Winter Storm Watch remains in effect until 1 pm afternoon. 

  • Snow accumulations up to 2 and 5 inches. 

West Virginia

Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from 7 am Saturday through 7 am Monday. 

  • Ice accumulations between a quarter of an inch and two tenths of an inch are expected.  
  • Snow accumulations between 9 and 12 inches. 

Georgia

Ice Storm Warning remains in effect until noon today. 

  • Refreezing of roadways after significant icing with some very minor accumulations still possible.
  • Winds gusting as high as 30 mph. 

New York

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 am Tuesday.

  • Snow accumulations between 1 to 3 inches today.  
  • Winds gusting as high as 40 mph creating blowing and drifting snow and at times whiteout conditions. 

Connecticut

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 am Tuesday.

  • Snow accumulations between 1 to 5 inches today.  

Rhode Island

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 am Tuesday.

  • Snow accumulations between 1 to 5 inches today.  

Massachusetts 

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 am Tuesday.

  • Snow accumulations between 1 to 5 inches today.  

Vermont

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 am Tuesday.

  • Snow accumulations between 3 to 7 inches today.  

New Hampshire

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 am Tuesday.

  • Snow accumulations between 3 to 7 inches today.  

Maine

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 3 am Tuesday.

  • Snow accumulations between 10 to 16 inches today.  

Additional Dense Fog Advisory included but not limited to:   Oregon and Florida. 

Additional High Wind Warning included but not limited to: California, Montana, and Colorado. 

Additional Winter Weather Advisory included but not limited to: Indiana, Michigan, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, and Maine. 

Additional Cold Weather Watch included but not limited to: North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tenseness, Kentucky,  Illinois, Wisconsin,  Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey.
