U.S. Weather Update 9.6.23

Summary:
A heat wave will persist in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast through Thursday and linger all week in Texas and neighboring states. Tropical Storm Lee is forecast to become a major hurricane over the western tropical Atlantic by this weekend and could bring impacts to the Leeward Islands by that time. Impacted Lanes: I-74, I-65, I-94, I-80, I-90, I-290, I-196, I-165


Illinois
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 9:45 AM CDT this morning

  • Radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. 
  • Impacts: Rapid-onset flooding of creeks, streams, drainage ditches, streets, underpasses, low-lying areas, and other poor drainage areas.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM CDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Underpasses may be flooded. Water is over roadways.

North Carolina
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: The lowest portions of USS North Carolina Road and Battleship Road begin to observe minor coastal flooding. Water begins to spread out of storm drains onto Water Street just south of Market Street in downtown Wilmington. Some roads may be closed due to water over them.
