U.S. Weather Update 9.14.23

Summary:
Hurricane Lee will continue moving north with increasing forward speed as the storm moves towards New England and Atlantic Canada. Swells from Lee will produce dangerous surf and life-threatening rip currents across the U.S. East Coast, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-25, I-80, I-15, I-70


North Carolina
Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 12 PM EDT Saturday 

  • 2 to 4 feet of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: Up to 2 to 4 feet of inundation above ground level is possible in some areas near shorelines and tidal waterways resulting in an elevated threat of property damage. Flooding will extend inland from the waterfront threatening some homes and businesses. Inundation of portions of Hwy 12 around high tide is likely. Water is expected over roadways. 

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM EDT Friday evening

  • 1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: Up to 1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground level is possible in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways resulting in a low threat of property damage. Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes adjacent to the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.

Texas
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 9:15 AM CDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water may be over roadways. 

New Mexico
Flood Watch remains in effect until 11:59 PM MDT this evening

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. 

South Dakota
Flood Warning remains in effect until 9:30 AM MDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.
