Weather Update 9.13.21 - U.S.

Summary: Tropical Storm Nicholas - located in the western Gulf of Mexico - will bring tropical storm force winds, life-threatening storm surge, isolated tornadoes, and significant heavy rain, impacting Texas and southwestern Louisiana coastal communities, including the Houston Metro area. Some bands of rain associated with Nicholas have already spread into the Texas and Louisiana coasts. Embargoes are still in place for much of the freight destined for coastal Louisiana including New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Advisories: Texas, Louisiana
  
Tropical Storm Warning
Tropical storm conditions will occur today along Coastal Texas from the mouth of the Rio Grande to High Island, and the southeast Houston metro area
  • 39+mph winds
  • 5-10 inches of rain
  • 2-4 ft storm surge
Hurricane Watch
Hurricane conditions are possible this afternoon along the mid Texas coast from Port Aransas to Freeport. 
  • 74+ mph winds
  • 8-16 inches of rain
    • Up to 20 inches
  • 3-5ft storm surge
Tropical Storm Watch
Tropical storm conditions are possible this evening along the Texas Coast from High Islands to Sabine Pass, and the city of Houston
  • 39+mph winds
  • 5-10 inches of rain
  • 2-4ft storm surge
 
Nicholas is expected to make landfall as soon as tonight, at least as a strong tropical storm, or perhaps even a category 1 hurricane.  At least some bands of heavier rain might also swing inland over southeastern Louisiana and southern Mississippi – areas still recovering from Hurricane Ida.
