U.S. Weather Update 8.4.23

Summary:
Oppressively heat and humidity continues across much of the South. Severe storms may produce damaging winds and locally heavy rain in the Northeast. An upper level system combined with ample moisture will produce heavy rain for parts of the north Plains where flash flooding will be likely. Meanwhile, fire weather threats continue in the south Plains and Northwest. Impacted Lanes: I-15, I-94, I-80, I-70, I-335, I-55, I-57, I-24, I-69, I-65, I-59, I-20, I-85, I-75


Missouri
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 10:30 AM CDT this morning

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 9:15 AM CDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways. 

Flood Watch remains in effect until 12 PM CDT today

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Low-water crossings may be flooded. There are a couple small rivers forecast to rise above flood stage overnight and additional rainfall may further heighten their rise or cause other similar rises on area rivers. 

Flood Warning remains in effect until 10 AM CDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.

Washington D.C. 
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 1 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Shoreline inundation is expected along portions of the seawall adjacent to Ohio Drive and the Hains Point Loop Road, and near the Tidal Basin and Jefferson Memorial. Up to one foot of inundation above ground level in low lying areas due to tidal flooding.
  • Impacts: Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected.

Nebraska
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM CDT this morning

  • Visibility one quarter to one half mile in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

Additional Coastal Flood Advisories include but are not limited to: North Carolina

Additional Dense Fog Advisories include but are not limited to: Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, and West Virginia
