Summary:
Prolonged dangerous summer heat wave continues for portions of the South and Southwest with several new record temperatures are forecast. Severe thunderstorms are possible for areas of the Plains, Tennessee Valley and Great Lakes Region today, with the threat expanding across New England. More severe thunderstorms are forecast for the Plains, Ohio Valley and Northeast into the weekend. Impacted Lanes: I-86, I-84, I-15, I-80, I-35, I-70, I-44, I-55, I-57, I-165, I-69, I-24, I-40, I-840, I-65, I-64, I-71, I-75, I-77, I-74, I-85


Missouri
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 9:30 AM CDT this morning

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Flood Warning remains in effect until 9:30 AM CDT this morning

  • Small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable.

Flood Watch remains in effect until 10 AM CDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.

Kentucky
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water may be over roadways. 

Flood Watch remains in effect until 2 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Low-water crossings may be flooded.
     

North Carolina
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 2 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: The lowest portions of USS North Carolina Road and Battleship Road begin to observe minor coastal flooding. Water begins to spread out of storm drains onto Water Street just south of Market Street in downtown Wilmington. Water may be over other roads as well. 

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 2 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

Wisconsin 
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM CDT this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

California
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 AM PDT Friday morning

  • Northwest to north winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected through mid morning. There may be a lull in the winds for a few hours, then northwest to north winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 50 mph are expected this afternoon through late tonight. Isolated gusts to 60 mph are possible this evening.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and make driving difficult, especially for drivers of high profile vehicles. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.
