U.S. Weather Update 8.23.23

Summary:
Excessive and dangerous heat will intensify and expand in the Central U.S. Harold remnants will bring threat of strong to severe thunderstorms and heavy to excessive rain from the Southwest to the Inter-Mountain West. Tropical Storm Franklin will bring heavy rain that could cause flash flooding and mudslides in Puerto Rico and the USVI as the system passes across Hispaniola. Impacted Lanes: I-20, I-10, I-25, I-35


Texas
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 2 PM CDT this afternoon

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening 

  • East winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening 

  • East winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

Flood Watch remains in effect until 10 PM CDT this evening 

  • Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Low-water crossings may be flooded.

Arizona
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM MST this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall earlier on Tuesday continues. The rainfall has ended and flooding is not expected to worsen.
  • Impacts: Standing water covering roadways and flooding in some buildings will continue.

Minnesota
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM CDT this morning

  • Visibility around one quarter in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.
