U.S. Weather Update 8.15.23

Summary:
More record high temperatures are forecast today across the Deep South, Southeast and into the Northwest portions of the country. Showers and thunderstorms, some severe with heavy rainfall, across the east coast states today into tonight. Monsoonal moisture and heavy rainfall expands from the Four Corners through the Intermountain West this week. For Hawaii, trade winds increase the next few days. Impacted Lanes: I-59, I-65, I-96, I-75, I-69, I-91, I-93, I-495, I-87


Tennessee 
Flood Warning remains in effect until 11:15 AM EDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is occurring. Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding. It will take several hours for all the water from these storms to work through local drainage systems in urban areas.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10:30 AM EDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Overflowing poor drainage areas. Water over roadways.

South Dakota
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM CDT this morning

  • Visibility under 1/2 mile in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

Massachusetts
Flood Watch remains in effect until 12 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Showers and a few embedded thunderstorms with heavy rain are expected toward daybreak Tuesday into Tuesday morning. A quick 1-2 inches of rain with localized 3 inch amounts are possible in a 2-4 hour period. This may impact the Tuesday morning commute and result in street flooding...especially in the urban centers.
