Weather Update 7.9.21 - U.S.

Summary: Tropical Storm Elsa will impact the Northeast U.S. today, spreading heavy rain, gusty winds and the threat of a few tornadoes up the East Coast, causing flash and urban flooding is expected across coastal New England. Thunderstorms, some with potentially significant severe weather, are expected Friday afternoon into Friday night across parts of the central Plains and Mid Missouri Valley. Dangerous heat will be found throughout much of the west, worsening this weekend. Current Advisories: New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine

Tropical Storm 
  • 2-4 inches of rainfall, locally up to 6 
    • Flash and river flooding possible
  • Tropical Storm Force winds likely nearest the coast
    • 30mph wind gusts elsewhere
  • Tornadoes possible across Long Island and southeast New England
  • Gale Warning in place across coastal New Hampshire and Maine
