U.S. Weather Update 7.17.24

Summary:
Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible from the central Plains to the Northeast through this evening. Widespread damaging winds are the primary threat but hail and a tornado or two is also possible. Extremely dangerous heat continues across the Eastern U.S. Warm overnight low temperatures will provide little to no relief. Impacted Lanes: I-40, I-35, I-44, I-49, I-30


Missouri 
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 10:15 AM CDT this morning

  • Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding.
  • Impacts: Life threatening flash flooding of low water crossings, small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 8:15 AM CDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways. 

Flood Watch remains in effect until 12:15 PM CDT this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roads, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

California
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 5 AM PDT Thursday morning

  • Northwest winds 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
