U.S. Weather Update 6.21.23

Summary:
The never-ending excessive heat across Texas and parts of the Southern U.S. will persist the rest of week with dangerous conditions. Meanwhile, strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible the next few days in portions of the Plains. Finally, a stubborn stationary system will produce pockets of heavy rain and thunderstorms which may lead to flooding in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic states. Impacted Lanes: I-95, I-94, I-90, I-80, I-70, I-75, I-65, I-40, I-85, I-64, I-66


Delaware
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 6 AM EDT Thursday morning

  • Up to one foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: At this level, flooding begins on the most vulnerable roads in coastal and bayside communities, and along inland tidal waterways. Some partial or full road closures are possible.

Kansas
Flood Warning remains in effect until 11:15 AM CDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.

Flood Watch remains in effect until 11:15 AM CDT Thursday morning

  • Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. 
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Low-water crossings may be flooded.

Florida 
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 11:45 AM EDT this morning

  • Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways.

Flood Watch remains in effect until 11 AM EDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

California
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 3 AM PDT Thursday morning

  • Northwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM PDT Wednesday afternoon

  • Flooding caused by snowmelt from recent warm temperatures and strong mountain winds.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roads near creeks and streams.
