U.S. Weather Update 6.20.23

Summary:
A few weather stories to follow this week across the U.S. and tropics. A dangerous and sweltering heat wave will persist across Texas and parts of the southern U.S. While, organized thunderstorms and heavy rain may lead to flooding in the Southeast. Finally, Tropical Storm Bret has formed over the central tropical Atlantic and may strengthen before reaching the Lesser Antilles later this week. Impacted Lanes: I-95, I-75, I-10, I-16, I-77, I-26, I-40, I-81, I-64, I-79


North Carolina 
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 11:30 AM EDT this morning

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. 

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10:45 AM EDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water may be over some roadways.

Flood Watch remains in effect until 4 PM EDT Thursday afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks.

Florida
Flood Warning remains in effect until 9 AM EDT this morning 

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EDT this morning 

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water may be over some roadways. 

Alabama
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM CDT this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

California
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 3 AM PDT Wednesday morning

  • Northwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM PDT Wednesday afternoon

  • Flooding caused by snowmelt from recent warm temperatures and strong mountain winds.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roads near creeks and streams.
