Weather Update 5.9.22

Summary:

The major weather story on Monday will be the continued critical fire weather concerns in the Four Corners region with extreme threats in New Mexico. Also, the West will remain inclement and cool, heat builds in the southern Plains and Lower Mississippi Valley and some strong to severe thunderstorms are possible from Iowa into parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin.

 

Major lanes of concern - I-10, I-20, I-25, I-40, I-70

As fire weather conditions rise across the Southwest, truckers may run into road closures, low visibility due to smoke, and a high risk of rollovers

California

Wind Advisory
  • Wind Advisory in effect now into Tuesday morning
    • Northwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected
    • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles

 

Idaho

Winter Weather Advisory
  • Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM MDT this morning
    • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches, higher amounts possible on mountain passes and ridges
    • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute

 

Montana

Winter Weather Advisory
  • Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM MDT this morning
    • Snow. Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches at lower elevations
      • 3 to 6 inches in the mountains
    • Impacts: Travel could be difficult at times. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning commute

 

Wyoming

High Wind Warning
  • High Wind Warning in effect until 9 PM MDT this evening
    • West winds 30 to 45 mph with gusts up to 65 mph possible
    • Impacts: Mainly to transportation. Strong cross winds will be hazardous to light weight and high profile vehicles, including campers and tractor trailers

 

Colorado

High Wind Warning
  • High Wind Warning in effect until Noon MDT today
    • Southwest winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 90 mph ongoing
    • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Travel will be difficult over the high mountain passes, especially for high profile vehicles

 

New Mexico

High Wind Warning
  • High Wind Warning in effect until 8 PM MDT this evening
    • Southwest to west winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected
      • Localized higher gusts up to 75 mph will be possible this morning over and just east of the Sangre de Cristo mountains
    • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Travel will be difficult over the high mountain passes, especially for high profile vehicles. Areas of blowing dust across the lower elevations may reduce visibility to less than 3 miles at times

 

Texas

High Wind Warning / Flood Warning
  • High Wind Warning remains in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening
    • West winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 60 mph.
    • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Travel will be
      difficult, especially for high profile vehicles
  • Flood Warning remains in effect until further notice
    • Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast
    • Where: Angelina River Near Lufkin
    • Impacts: Minor lowland to diminish and end on the lower Angelina River


Nebraska

High Wind Warning 
  • High Wind Warning remains in effect from 9 AM this morning to 7 PM MDT this evening
    • West winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts to around 55 mph expected
    • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles

 

North Dakota

Flash Flood Warning / Flood Warning / Wind Advisory
  • Flash Flood Warning in effect until 9 AM CDT Monday
    • Expected rainfall rate...0.5-1 inch in 1 hour
    • Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash
      flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly
    • Where: Eastern Eddy County in northeastern North Dakota
    • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles
  • Flood Warning remains in effect until further notice
    • Major flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast
  • Wind Advisory in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 10 PM CDT this evening
    • South winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. A few power outages are possible

 

South Dakota

Flood Warning / Wind Advisory
  • Flood Warning remains in effect until further notice
    • Moderate flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast. This approaches the flood of record
  • Wind Advisory remains in effect from 10 AM this morning to 8 PM CDT this evening
    • South winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result

 

Minnesota

Flood Warning / Wind Advisory
  • Flood Warning remains in effect until further notice
    • Moderate flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast
  • Wind Advisory in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 7 PM CDT this evening
    • Southwest winds 25 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected
    • Impacts:Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result

 

 
Coastal Flood Warnings include the following: New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina

Additional Wind Advisories include but not limited to the following: Utah, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Michigan (Upper Peninsula)

Additional Flood Advisories include but not limited to the following: Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Illinois, Indiana, North Dakota and Minnesota
