Weather Update 5.5.22

Summary: Severe thunderstorms are expected from eastern Texas into the mid Mississippi Valley Thursday. Storms will be capable of producing tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds. Heavy rainfall may also lead to flash flooding.

Impacted: I-29, I-94, US Route 2, & US Highway 59

Major lanes of concern

Due to flooding

  • Interstate 29 from Fargo, North Dakota, to the U.S.-Canada border
  • Interstate 94 from Fargo to Detroit Lakes, Minnesota
  • U.S. Route 2 from Devils Lake, North Dakota, to Bemidji, Minnesota
  • U.S. Highway 59 in Minnesota from Erskine to Thief River Falls

Oregon

Wind Advisory
  • Wind Advisory in effect from 11 AM this morning to 2 AM PDT Saturday
    • West to southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph expected
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result 

California

Wind Advisory
  • Wind Advisory now in effect from 11 AM this morning to 5 AM PDT Saturday
    • West to southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph expected
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result 

 

Nevada

Wind Advisory
  • Wind Advisory in effect from 11 AM this morning to 5 AM PDT Saturday
    • West to southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 55 mph expected
      • Wind gusts up to 65 mph for wind prone locations
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result

 

Kansas

Flood Warning
  • Flood Warning in effect until early Saturday morning
    • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected
    • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring

 

Oklahoma

Flood Warning
  • Flood Warning now in effect until late tonight
    • Major flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast due to excessive rainfall
    • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. It will take several hours for all the water from these storms to work through local drainage systems in urban areas. The flooded roadways will impact the morning commute

 

Missouri

Flood Warning
  • Flood Warning now in effect from this afternoon to Saturday evening
    • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected
    • Impacts: Heavy rainfall received overnight will cause river levels to rise well above flood stage. Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying
      and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring

 

Arkansas

Flood Warning
  • Flood Warning now in effect from this evening until further notice
    • Minor flooding is forecast
    • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying
      and flood-prone locations possible
