U.S. Weather Update 5.4.23

Summary:
Severe thunderstorms capable of large hail, damaging winds, and perhaps a couple of tornadoes are possible across parts of the southern Plains Thursday. Unsettled weather is expected to increase across the Northwest with widespread showers and thunderstorms and high elevation mixed precipitation and snow forecast through the end of the week. Impacted Lanes: I-29, I-10, I-40, I-5, I-605, I-15, I-84, I-15


Idaho
Flood Warning remains in effect until 4 PM MDT this afternoon

  • Small stream flooding caused by snowmelt continues.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM MDT this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by snowmelt continues.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Rises in small streams and normally dry arroyos. Water over roadways.

Arizona 
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM MST this evening

  • South winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts 40 to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. In addition, winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

California
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM PDT this evening

  • Wet snow. Additional snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches with isolated snowfall to around one foot on higher peaks. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM PDT this evening

  • Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 55 mph.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down. Travel may be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 8 AM PDT this morning

  • Moderate to heavy rain capable of producing urban and small stream flooding.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

Additional Flood Warnings include but are not limited to: Washington, North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota

Additional Flood Advisories include but are not limited to: Oregon, Utah, Colorado, Michigan,  Connecticut, New York, New Hampshire and Maine

Additional Wind Advisories include but are not limited to: Montana
