U.S. Weather Update 5.31.23

Summary:
Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms capable of damaging wind gusts, hail, and isolated flash flooding will continue across the central and southern High Plains. Scattered showers and thunderstorms, with locally heavy amounts possible, are expected to initiate over the Florida Peninsula. Elevated to critical fire weather conditions in the Southwest. Impacted Lanes: I-10, I-25, I-40, I-335, I-35, I-470, I-49, I-29


Texas
Flood Watch remains in effect until 6 AM CDT Thursday morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 8:15 AM CDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Overflowing poor drainage areas. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent. Low-water crossings may be flooded. 

Flood Warning remains in effect until 8:15 PM CDT Thursday evening

  • Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. Low-water crossings may be flooded. 

California
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 5 AM PDT Thursday morning

  • West winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Difficult driving conditions, especially for larger vehicles traveling along roads with crosswinds. Light, unsecured objects may become airborne. Minor tree damage possible.
