Weather Update 5.31.22

Summary
Severe thunderstorms and heavy rain are forecast across parts of the northern Plains and upper Mississippi Valley through the night. The threat of severe weather and locally heavy rainfall is forecast to rapidly develop from parts of the Upper Midwest into the Southern Plains later on Tuesday. Above average temperatures are expected in parts of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

California

Wind Advisory
  • Wind Advisory in effect until 9 AM PDT this morning
    • Northwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected
      • Strongest through the Interstate 5 Corridor
    • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles

Montana

Winter Storm Warning
  • Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until Noon MDT today
    • Heavy snow occurring. Additional snow accumulations up to 4 inches
    • Winds gusting as high as 30 mph
    • Impacts: Travel over Highway 14 through Burgess Junction will be difficult due to heavy slush or snow packed roads

 

Wyoming

Winter Storm Warning

  • Winter Storm Warning in effect until Noon MDT today
    • Heavy, wet snow expected. Total snow accumulations of one to two feet
      • An estimated 8 to 16 inches have already fallen
    • Northeast wind gusting 25 to 40 mph
    • Impacts: Backcountry travel will become very difficult and potentially dangerous because of the snow and wind

 

Colorado

Winter Weather Advisory
  • Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 3 PM this afternoon to Noon MDT Wed
    • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 12 inches
    • Northeast wind gusting 25 to 40 mph
    • Impacts: Roads will likely become slick and hazardous, especially late this evening and early overnight

 

North Dakota

Wind Advisory / Flood Warning
  • Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening
    • Northwest winds around 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected
    • Impacts: Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles
  • Flood Warning remains in effect until further notice
    • Minor flooding is forecast

 

South Dakota

Wind Advisory / Flood Warning
  • Wind Advisory in effect until 1 PM CDT this afternoon
    • West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph
    • Impacts: Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles
  • Flood Warning remains in effect until further notice
    • Minor flooding is forecast

 

Minnesota

Wind Advisory / Flood Warning
  • Wind Advisory in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening
    • West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.
  • Flood Warning remains in effect until further notice
    • Minor flooding is forecast

 

Wisconsin & Michigan (Upper Peninsula) 
Wind Advisory 
  • Wind Advisory in effect until 4 PM CDT this afternoon
    • West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.
Kansas
Flood Warning
  • Flood Warning in effect now to late this evening
    • Minor flooding is forecast
    • Impacts: At 21.0 feet, Low lying farm fields and campsites along the creek begin to flood
