U.S. Weather Update 5.3.23

Summary:
Storms spinning off the West Coast and over the Northeast will move scattered showers through those regions today. Dry, gusty winds will bring critical fire weather to parts of Georgia and Florida today then New Mexico on Thursday and Friday. Severe thunderstorms capable of large hail, damaging winds, and perhaps a couple of tornadoes are possible across parts of the southern Plains Thursday. Impacted Lanes: I-29, I-80, I-84, I-15, I-86, I-79, I-77, I-64, I-81


Idaho
Flood Warning remains in effect until 4 PM MDT this afternoon

  • Small stream flooding caused by snowmelt continues.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.

Flood Watch remains in effect until Sunday afternoon

  • Flooding caused by rain and snowmelt continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Low-water crossings may be flooded.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM MDT this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by snowmelt continues.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Rises in small streams and normally dry arroyos. Water over roadways.

Nevada
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM PDT this evening

  • Southeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. A few power outages are possible. Travel may be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

West Virginia 
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 2 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Heavy wet snow. Additional snow accumulations between 3 and 6 inches. Storm total snowfall amounts will be between 10 and 16 inches of snow. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday morning commute.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EDT this morning

  • Snow expected above 3500 feet. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph. 
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.
