Weather Update 5.24.22

Summary
A slow moving storm system is expected to produce a multi-day heavy rainfall and flash flooding event across much of the Central to Southern Plains and Lower Mississippi Valley regions. Severe weather may produce large hail and high winds, but also a threat of tornadoes, across Texas and spreading on Wednesday into the Lower Mississippi, Tennessee and Ohio Valleys.

Colorado

Winter Weather Advisory / Winter Storm Warning
  • Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 6 PM MDT this evening
    • Snow ongoing. Additional snow accumulations between 3 and 8 inches
    • Impacts: Travel will be difficult at times with slushy roads and poor visibility in the heavier showers. Roads affected will include Interstate 70 between Georgetown and Vail Pass and US highways 285 and 24 in Park county.
  • Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 PM MDT this evening above 10000 feet
    • Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches
    • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult over the higher mountains

 

Kansas

Dense Fog Advisory / Flood Warning
  • Dense Fog Advisory in effect until 9 AM MDT this morning
    • Visibility down to a quarter mile at times in dense fog
    • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility
  • Flood Warning  in effect until 5 PM CDT this afternoon
    • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected
    • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring

 

Oklahoma

Flash Flood Warning / Flood Warning
  • Flash Flood Warning in effect until 9:30 AM CDT this morning
    • Between 3 and 6 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area
      • Flash flooding is already occurring
    • Where: Northern Creed, Southeastern Osage, Southeastern Pawnee, and West Central Tulsa Counties
    • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas
  • Flood Warning in effect until further notice
    • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected
