U.S. Weather Update 5.2.24

Summary:
Active weather for the center of the nation today. Severe thunderstorms and flash flooding concerns over portions of the Central and Southern Plains into the Mississippi Valley today into tonight. Meanwhile, cool and snowy in parts of the Northwest and Great Basin with above average and potentially record breaking temperatures for the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic. Impacted Lanes: I-84, I-5, I-15, I-94, I-29, I-90, I-35, I-39, I-80, I-70, I-40, I-44, I-45, I-20, I-49, I-69, I-10, I-95


Texas
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 10 AM CDT this morning

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low lying areas.

 Flood Advisory remains in effect until 9:30 AM CDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways.

 Flood Warning remains in effect until 6 AM CDT Saturday  morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from rainfall. Water over roadways. 

 Flood Watch remains in effect until 3 PM CDT Friday afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Water over roadways. 

Montana
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 PM MDT this evening

  • Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations between 5 and 10 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult and tire chains may be required for some vehicles. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The heavy wet snow may cause isolated power outages.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 12:15 PM MDT this afternoon

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations up to 3 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
  • Impacts: Slush and or snow covered roads could cause difficult travel conditions. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.

Alabama
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM CDT this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.
