Weather Update 5.2.22

Summary: A threat of severe weather is expected to develop over central to southern Plains into the Ozarks Monday afternoon into the evening. Large hail, damaging wind gusts and tornadoes will be possible. Elevated to critical fire weather conditions are expected through Wednesday and again over the upcoming weekend across the Southwest.     Impacted: I-20, I-29, I-35, I-40, I-44 , I-70 ,& I-80

Major lanes of concern

  • Interstate 20 in Texas from Pecos to Abilene
  • Interstate 29 from Omaha to Kansas City
  • Interstate 35 from Ardmore, Oklahoma, to Des Moines, Iowa
  • Interstate 40 from Oklahoma City to Memphis, Tennessee
  • Interstate 44 from Oklahoma City to St. Louis
  • Interstate 70 from Hays, Kansas, to Indianapolis
  • Interstate 80 from North Platte, Nebraska, to Chicago

 

California

Wind Advisory
  • Wind Advisory remains in effect until 10 PM PDT this evening
    • Southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected
      • Winds will shift to west northwest Monday morning 
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Blowing dust will reduce visibilities in some locations. Travel will be difficult, particularly for high profile vehicles. Highways affected include Highway 14, US Highway 395, Highway 58, and Highway 178

Nevada

Wind Advisory / Blowing Dust Advisory
  • Wind Advisory in effect from 11 AM this morning to 11 PM PDT this evening
    • For the Wind Advisory, west winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected
    • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to reduced visibility. Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. A few power outages are possible
  • Blowing Dust Advisory in effect from 11 AM this morning to 8 PM PDT this evening
    • Visibility between one quarter mile and one mile in blowing dust expected
    • Impacts: Travel could be affected due to reduced visibility 

Idaho

Wind Advisory / Winter Weather Advisory
  • Wind Advisory in effect from 6 PM to 10 PM MDT this evening
    • Northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected. Locally higher gusts are possible from thunderstorms
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Difficult driving conditions for high profile vehicles
  • Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM MDT this Tuesday
    • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 7 inches
      • 6 to 14 inches on ridge tops and elevations above passes
    • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute Monday and morning commute Tuesday
Colorado
Wind Advisory / Winter Weather Advisory
  • Wind Advisory in effect from 6 PM to 10 PM MDT this evening
    • Northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected. Locally higher gusts are possible from thunderstorms
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Difficult driving conditions for high profile vehicles
  • Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon MDT today
    • Snow ongoing. Additional snow accumulations between 4 and 6 inches
    • Impacts: Roads will likely become slick and hazardous. Snow covered roads will make travel hazardous. Travel could be very difficult

Nebraska

Winter Weather Advisory
  • Wind Advisory in effect until 3 PM MDT this afternoon
    • Heavy wet snow. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches expected
      • Isolated maximum amounts of up to 6 inches possible
    • Impacts: Hazardous travel conditions due to slick, snow covered, or slushy roadways and reduced visibilities in heavy snow. The worst conditions will impact the morning commute

Minnesota

Flood Warning
  • Flood Warning in effect until further notice
    • Major flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast
    • Where: Red River

North Dakota

Flood Warning
  • Flood Warning in effect until 6 PM CDT Monday
    • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues 
Additional Dense Fog Advisories include but not limited to the following: Alabama, Georgia, Florida, West Virginia, and Virginia
 
Additional Flood Advisories include but not limited to the following: Missouri, Arkansas, and Illinois
