U.S. Weather Update 5.15.24

Summary:
Scattered severe thunderstorms will continue over parts of the north-central Florida Peninsula and develop in the southern Great Plains. New daily record high temperatures are expected for portions of South Florida and southern Texas the next couple of days. Flash flooding is expected in Hawaii. On Thursday, rain may cause additional flooding across east Texas and Louisiana. Impacted Lanes: I-37, I-65, I-69, I-70, I-74, I-64, I-75, I-40, I-85, I-77, I-26, I-66, I-95


Kentucky
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 10 AM EDT this morning

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10:15 AM EDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Some low-water crossings may become impassable.

Flood Warning remains in effect until 1 PM CDT Friday afternoon

  • Small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Water is over roadways. 

Virginia
Flood Warning remains in effect until further notice

  • Minor flooding is occurring.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Water is over roadways. 

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 11 AM EDT this morning

  • Up to one foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: Shallow flooding is expected in the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline. Expect up to one foot of water above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas. Some roads and low lying property will experience shallow flooding.

South Carolina
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EDT this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous. Visibility may change suddenly and over short distances.

California
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 10 PM PDT this evening

  • West winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts 45 to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
