U.S. Weather Update 4.5.23

Summary:
Tornadoes, severe thunderstorm gusts, and large hail are likely tonight and Wednesday from the Great Lakes to central Texas. There is also a flash flooding threat from the Southern Plains into the Ohio Valley. Strong winds and heavy snow will create whiteout conditions and significant drifting snow through Wednesday. Impacted Lanes: I-29, I-90, I-94, I-80, I-215, I-84, I-15, US-52, US-281, US-2


North Dakota
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CDT this evening

  • Snow and blowing snow. Additional snow accumulations up to one inch. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.

Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 9 PM CDT this evening

  • Snow and blowing snow. Additional snow accumulations up to one inch. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel will be very difficult to impossible. Widespread blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility.

Minnesota 
Ice Storm Warning remains in effect until 10 AM CDT this morning

  • Significant icing. Additional snow accumulations of up to one inch and ice accumulations of a light glaze.
  • Impacts: Very slippery sidewalks, roads and bridges are possible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening

  • Heavy mixed precipitation. Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 6 inches, except up to one inch for the higher terrain of the North Shore and ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 7 AM CDT Thursday morning

  • Blizzard conditions. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 3 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 to 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening

  • Mixed precipitation. Additional snow accumulations of inch and ice accumulations of a light glaze. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph Wednesday afternoon.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

Indiana
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM EDT this evening

  • Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel may be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Georgia 
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EDT this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in areas to widespread dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

Additional Blizzard Warnings include but are not limited to: South Dakota

Additional Winter Storm Warnings include but are not limited to: Utah

Additional Ice Storm Warnings include but are not limited to: Wisconsin and Michigan
