Weather Update 4.5.22

Summary: A multi-day severe weather threat continues the next three days for a large chunk of the U.S. from two separate weather systems. For Tuesday, severe storms with a swath of damaging winds and strong tornadoes are likely across the central Gulf Coast states and in parts of the Southeast. Then on Wednesday, the Southeastern quadrant of the U.S. will once again see another round of severe storms.

Washington
Winter Storm Warning / Wind Advisory
  • Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 8 AM PDT this morning
    • Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations between 10 and 20 inches
    • Winds gusting as high as 50 mph
    • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Strong winds could cause tree damage.
  • Wind Advisory in effect until 7 PM PDT this evening
    • West winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles

 

Oregon

Wind Advisory
  • Wind Advisory in effect until 7 PM PDT this evening
    • West winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts 45 to 50 mph expected.
    • Impacts: Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles

California

High Wind Warning
  • High Wind Warning remains in effect until 3 AM PDT Wednesday
    • North winds 25 to 40 mph with damaging gusts up to 65 mph expected
    • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles

 

Nevada

Wind Advisory
  • Wind Advisory in effect until 8 AM PDT this morning
    • West winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. A few power outages are possible. Blowing dust could further add to any travel difficulties created by the winds

 

Idaho

Winter Weather Advisory / High Wind Warning
  • Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon MDT today
    • Snow. Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches
    • Winds gusting as high as 40 mph
    • Impacts: Travel may be difficult
  • High Wind Warning now in effect until 9 PM MDT this evening
    • West winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph
    • Impacts: Difficult driving for high profile vehicles and patchy blowing dust are expected

 

Montana

High Wind Warning / Winter Weather Advisory
  • High Wind Warning remains in effect until 9 PM MDT this evening
    • West winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph
      • Higher wind gusts are possible in more intense shower activity
    • Impacts: High winds may move loose debris. Visibility may be briefly reduced to less
      than one mile at times in more intense snow showers and blowing snow. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles
  • Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM MDT Wednesday
    • Snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to 4 inches
    • Winds gusting as high as 70 mph
    • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions at lower elevations, and snow covered roads over mountain passes. Blowing snow will reduce visibility to less than one mile at times, mainly at and above pass level

 

Wyoming

High Wind Warning / Winter Weather Advisory
  • High Wind Warning remains in effect until 6 PM MDT Wednesday
    • West winds 40 to 55 mph with gusts up to 80 mph expected
      • Winds may locally exceed 90 MPH near the Sierra Madre Range in the Upper North Platte River Valley
    • Impacts: Strong cross winds will be hazardous to light weight and high profile vehicles, including campers and tractor trailers. There will be an extreme risk for vehicle blowovers
  • Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 AM MDT Wednesday
    • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches
    • Winds gusting as high as 60 mph at pass level with higher gusts on the peaks
    • Impacts: Falling and blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Near blizzard conditions are possible due to very strong winds

 

Utah

Winter Weather Advisory / High Wind Warning
  • Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until midnight MDT tonight
    • Snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to 4 inches
    • Winds gusting as high as 60 mph
    • Impacts: The combination of snow and strong gusty winds will create areas of blowing snow that will result in significant travel difficulties
  • High Wind Warning remains in effect until 6 PM MDT this evening
    • Northwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph
    • Impacts: High winds may move loose debris, damage property and cause power outages. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles

 

Colorado

Winter Weather Advisory / High Wind Warning
  • Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect midnight MDT tonight
    • Snow ongoing. Additional snow accumulations generally 2 to 5 inches
      • 5 to 10 inches in favored areas
    • Winds gusting as high as 70 mph
    • Impacts: Snow and blowing snow will reduce visibility to a quarter mile or less. Plan on slippery road conditions
  • High Wind Warning remains in effect from 9 AM this morning to 9 PM MDT this evening 
    • Northwest winds 30 to 45 mph with gusts up to 65 mph expected
    • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Blowing dust will reduce visibility to less than a quarter mile in places

 

Arizona

Wind Advisory
  • Wind Advisory in effect from 11 AM to 7 PM MST today
    • West to northwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected
    • Impacts:Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. In addition, winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Blowing dust resulting in reduced visibility is likely across northeast Arizona, including portions of I-40

New Mexico

High Wind Warning
  • High Wind Warning in effect from 6 AM this morning to midnight MDT tonight
    • West winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 65 mph expected
    • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Travel will be difficult,
      especially for high profile vehicles. Areas of blowing dust will reduce visibility on area roadways. This includes I-25 as well as U.S. Highway 64

 

Texas

Dense Fog Advisory / High Wind Warning / Flood Warning
  • Dense Fog Advisory in effect until 11 AM CDT this morning
    • Visibility less than one mile in dense fog
    • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility
  • High Wind Warning in effect from noon CDT today to 8 PM this evening
    • West winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected
    • Impacts: High winds could make driving difficult for motorists with high profile vehicle
  • Flood Warning in effect from Tuesday evening to Thursday afternoon
    • Minor flooding is forecast

 

Oklahoma

Dense Fog Advisory / High Wind Warning
  • Dense Fog Advisory in effect until 11 AM CDT this morning
    • Visibility less than one mile in dense fog
    • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility
  • High Wind Warning remains in effect from noon today to 9 PM CDT this evening
    • West 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph
    • Impacts: High winds could make driving difficult for motorists with high profile vehicle

 

Kansas

High Wind Warning
  • High Wind Warning remains in effect from noon today to 8 PM CDT Wednesday
    • Northwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected
    • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Areas of blowing dust will impact area travel lowering visibility to as low as one to three miles at times. High winds could make driving difficult for motorists with high profile vehicle

 

Nebraska

High Wind Warning
  • High Wind Warning now in effect until 6 PM MDT Wednesday
    • Northwest winds 40 to 50 MPH with gusts up to 75 MPH expected
    • Impacts: Mainly to transportation. Strong cross winds may be hazardous to light weight and high profile vehicles. There will be an extreme risk for vehicle blow overs

North Dakota

High Wind Warning / Flood Warning

  • High Wind Warning remains in effect from 9 AM this morning to 6 AM MDT Wednesday
    • Northwest winds up to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected
    • Impacts: Objects left unsecured outside will be blown around. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles
  • Flood Warning for snowmelt remains in effect until further notice

 

South Dakota

High Wind Warning
  • High Wind Warning now in effect from noon today to midnight MDT Wednesday
    • Northwest winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 75 mph expected
    • Impacts:Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Strong winds can cause blowing dust, reduced visibility, and flying debris

 

Minnesota

Winter Weather Advisory /  Flood Warning
  • Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening
    • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches
    • Winds gusting as high as 40 mph
    • Impacts:Plan on slippery road conditions. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility
  • Flood Warning for snowmelt remains in effect until further notice

 

Mississippi

Flash Flood Warning
  • Flash Flood Warning in effect until 10:30 AM CDT this morning
    • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
 

Additional Flood Advisories include but not limited to: Louisiana, Arkansas, Alabama, and Illinois

  • Flood Advisories effective until further notice
