U.S. Weather Update 4.30.24

Summary:
Strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible across the Central Plains and Missouri Valley Tuesday afternoon and evening. The main threats will be damaging wind and large hail. A late-season low pressure system will bring widespread high-elevation snow and lower elevation rain across the Pacific Northwest toward the Northern Rockies through Tuesday. Impacted Lanes: I-5, I-84, I-90, I-94, I-70, I-80, I-29, I-65, I-20, I-75, I-40, I-77, I-71


Montana
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 12:15 PM MDT Thursday afternoon

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 6 and 14 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
  • Impacts: Slush and or snow covered roads could cause very difficult travel conditions.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 12:15 PM MDT Thursday afternoon

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 8 inches, with the greatest amounts near the Canadian border and the higher terrain of the Southern Rocky Mountain Front. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
  • Impacts: Slush and or snow covered roads could cause difficult travel conditions.

Wyoming
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 6 PM MDT this evening

  • West winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph possible.
  • Impacts: Mainly to transportation. Strong cross winds will be hazardous to light weight or high profile vehicles, including campers and tractor trailers.

Texas 
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM CDT this morning

  • Minor coastal flooding.
  • Impacts: Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected.

Flood Warning remains in effect until 1 AM CDT Wednesday morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. Water over roadways. 

California
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 3 PM PDT Wednesday afternoon

  • Northwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
