Weather Update 4.29.22

Summary: Extremely critical fire weather conditions are expected to develop in southeastern Colorado Friday with critical conditions existing from the Southwest into the southern High Plains. Severe thunderstorms capable of all hazards and heavy rain are possible Friday across portions of the southern and central Plains. Heavy rain will increase river flooding in the Northern Plains. Impacted: I-15, I-90, I-20, I-25, & I-40

Major lanes of concern

Due to Winter Storm

  • Interstate 15 from Great Falls to the Montana-Idaho border
  • Interstate 90 from Missoula to Bozeman

Due to Raging Fire conditions

  • Interstate 20 in Texas from Pecos to Abilene
  • Interstate 25 from Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Pueblo, Colorado
  • Interstate 40 from Kingman, Arizona, to Oklahoma City

Idaho

Wind Advisory / Winter Weather Advisory
  • Wind Advisory  in effect until 3 PM MDT this afternoon
    • West winds 20 to 30 MPH with gusts up to 45 MPH expected
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Unsecured objects may be blown around. Localized blowing dust is possible and may result in pockets of poor visibility
  • Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM MDT this morning above 4500 feet
    • Snow above 4500 feet. Additional snow accumulations of up to two inches
    • Impacts: Travel could be affected
       

Montana

Winter Storm Warning / Winter Weather Advisory
  • Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until midnight MDT tonight
    • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 6 and 14 inches in the mountains
      • Little or no snow accumulation below 4000 ft
    • Impacts: Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous
  • Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM MDT this evening
    • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 12 inches above 6000 feet with locally higher amounts
    • Snow accumulation up to 2 inches in the valleys
    • Impacts: Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous

 

Kansas

Wind Advisory
  • Wind Advisory in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 1 AM CDT Saturday
    • South winds 25 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected
    • Impacts: Travel may be difficult especially for high profile vehicles

 

Oklahoma

Wind Advisory
  • Wind Advisory in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 9 PM CDT this evening
    • South winds 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected
    • Impacts: Travel may be difficult especially for high profile vehicles 

 

Maine

Winter Weather Advisory
  • Winter Weather Advisory in effect from until 6 AM EDT Friday
    • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches expected
      • Locally over 9 inches in higher elevations
      • Winds gusting as high as 35 mph
    • Impacts: periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Expect snow covered roads  and limited visibilities
