U.S. Weather Update 4.26.24

Summary:
Critical fire weather conditions, severe thunderstorms capable of producing severe wind gusts, large hail, strong tornadoes and heavy rainfall remain on tap for the central U.S. this evening. Flash flooding is also possible for portions of the Plains and Mississippi Valley. Very large hail up to 3 inches in diameter will be possible this evening across western Kansas. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-5, I-84, I-80, I-15, I-76, I-70, I-94, I-29, I-35, I-72, I-44, I-75, I-40


Montana
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 PM MDT Saturday evening

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations up to 3 inches below 7000 feet with 4 to 10 inches above 7000 feet.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible and tire chains may be required for some vehicles.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM MDT Saturday evening

  • Wet snow expected. Total snow accumulations up to one inch below 6500 feet with 2 to 6 inches above 6500 feet.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions.

California
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 3 AM PDT Saturday morning

  • Northwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 9 PM PDT this evening

  • West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

Nebraska
Flood Warning remains in effect until 11:30 AM CDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Water over roadways. 

Oklahoma
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 11:15 AM CDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways.

Louisiana
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM CDT Saturday afternoon

  • Minor coastal flooding expected with tides 1 to 2 feet of inundation along the immediate coast.
  • Impacts: Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM CDT Saturday evening

  • Southeast winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
