U.S. Weather Update 4.24.23

Summary:
Frost/Freeze conditions are expected across most of the central Plains and the Midwest through early Monday morning. Meanwhile, low pressure will track across the Northwest portion of our nation and move across the Intermountain West and Rockies through early this week. Periods of rain, mountain snow, are expected where precipitation could be locally heavy accompanied by gusty winds. Impacted Lanes: I-94, I-29, I-90, I-84, US-81


Montana
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 12 PM MDT Tuesday afternoon

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 5 and 10 inches.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds and the weight of heavy, wet snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages. Travel will be very difficult.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM MDT Tuesday afternoon

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches, with locally higher amounts up to 8 inches on mountain peaks.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds and the weight of heavy, wet snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages. Travel could be very difficult.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM MDT this afternoon

  • Small stream flooding caused by snowmelt continues.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Some low-water crossings may become impassable.

North Dakota
Flood Warning remains in effect until 4 PM CDT Tuesday afternoon

  • Flooding caused by snowmelt continues.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.

Idaho
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM MDT Tuesday morning

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches above 6500 feet MSL and up to 2 inches below 6500 feet. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph. Blowing snow will reduce visibility in places such as Interstate 15 through Monida Pass.
  • Impacts: Travel could be difficult. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 3 AM MDT Tuesday morning

  • West wind 30 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Unsecured objects may be blown around. Weakened trees and large branches may drop to the ground.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 3 PM MDT this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by snowmelt continues.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Streams and creeks running high. Water over a few roadways.
