U.S. Weather Update 4.21.23

Summary:
Scattered severe thunderstorms capable of hail, damaging wind gusts, and heavy rain which could produce flooding are possible from parts of mid Mississippi Valley southwestward into the Ark-La-Tex and central Texas this afternoon and tonight. Heavy snow and some icing will continue across the Upper Midwest into early Friday as a low pressure system moves through the region. Impacted Lanes: I-94, I-29, I-5, I-90, I-15, I-84, I-86, I-80, MN-60, MN-22, MN-220, MN-317, MN-93, MN-67


South Dakota
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 9 PM MDT this evening

  • Northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph.
  • Impacts: Sudden wind gusts can cause drivers to lose control, especially in lightweight or high profile vehicles. Strong winds can cause blowing dust, reduced visibility, and flying debris.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 AM CDT Saturday morning

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to two inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph. Locally higher gusts possible.
  • Impacts: Plan on slick spots on roads. The combination of snow and gusty winds will create blowing snow, reducing visibilities at times. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

North Dakota
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 AM CDT Saturday morning

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to two inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning commute.

Flood Warning remains in effect until 4 PM CDT this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by snowmelt continues.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.

Wisconsin
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM CDT Saturday evening

  • Southwest winds 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 65 mph, are expected
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. River or stream flows are elevated. Many area road closures continue.
