Summary: Dry, gusty winds will continue to result in elevated to critical fire weather conditions across the High Plains into the Southwest U.S. through Saturday. Severe thunderstorms will be possible across the Plains through Saturday. Conditions will remain unsettled along the West Coast and Interior Mountain West through Thursday with low elevation heavy rain and high elevation heavy snow expected

California

Wind Advisory / Winter Storm Warning
  • Wind Advisory now in effect until Friday morning
    • Southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected
    • Impacts: Sudden strong wind gusts could result in the development of blowing dust across roadways. Reduced visibility may occur. Difficult driving conditions, especially for larger vehicles traveling along roads with crosswinds
  • Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 AM PDT Friday  
    • Heavy snow. Additional snowfall accumulations of 7 to 14 inches below 7000 feet
      • 12 to 24 inches west of Highway 89
      • above 7000 feet, additional snowfall of 18 to 30 likely
    • Winds gusting to 50 mph with Sierra ridge gusts above 80 mph
    • Impacts: Travel will be very difficult with long delays and possible highway closures over the Sierra. Strong winds and heavy snow accumulations could damage tree limbs and produce power outages

 

Nevada

Wind Advisory / Winter Storm Warning
  • Wind Advisory in effect from 11 AM to 2 PM PDT Friday
    • Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph possible
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could result in tree limbs blown down and a few power outages. Sudden crosswinds over Highway 95 could result in dangerous travel for high profile vehicles
  • Winter Storm Warning remains in effect 11 AM PDT Friday
    • Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations of 7 to 14 inches below 7000 feet
      • 12 to 24 inches west of Highway 89
      • Above 7000 feet, additional snowfall of 18 to 30 inches is likely
    • Winds gusting to 50 mph with Sierra ridge gusts above 80 mph
    • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult with long delays and possible highway closures over the Sierra. Strong winds and heavy snow accumulations could damage tree limbs as well as cause reduced visibility from blowing snow

 

Utah

Wind Advisory / Winter Weather Advisory
  • Wind Advisory in effect until 10 PM MDT this evening
    • South winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Crosswinds are possible on east-west routes. Blowing dust may reduce visibilities at times
  • Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect now into Saturday
    • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 16
    • Winds gusting to 50 mph with Sierra ridge gusts above 80 mph
    • Impacts: Occasional winter driving conditions are possible on mountain routes. Traction restrictions may be enacted

 

Arizona

Wind Advisory
  • Wind Advisory in effect from 11 AM this morning until 11 PM PDT this evening
    • Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. In addition, winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles

 

Montana

Winter Storm Warning
  • Winter Storm Warning in effect from 7 AM this morning to 7 PM CDT this evening 
    • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 12 to 18 inches
      • Up to 2 feet in the mountains
    • Winds gusting as high as 45 mph
    • Impacts: Travel will be difficult

Nebraska

Dense Fog Advisory 
  • Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM CDT this morning
    • Visibility one quarter to one half mile in dense fog
    • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility

 

Kansas

Dense Fog Advisory 
  • Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM CDT this morning
    • Visibility less than one quarter mile in dense fog
    • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility

 

Minnesota

Dense Fog Advisory / Flood Warning
  • Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM CDT this morning
    • Visibility less than one quarter mile in dense fog
    • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility
  • Flood Warning remains in effect until further notice
    • Moderate flooding is forecast 

 

Iowa

Dense Fog Advisory 
  • Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM CDT this morning
    • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog
    • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility

 

Missouri 

Dense Fog Advisory 
  • Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM CDT this morning
    • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog
    • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility
