Weather Update 4.20.22

Summary: As a system moves onshore in the Northwest, high elevation snow and low elevation rain and storms will be likely. Dry, warm conditions and gusty winds will result in an elevated to critical fire weather threat from the Southwest into the High Plains. Isolated severe thunderstorms will be possible across eastern Oklahoma on Wednesday.

Oregon

Wind Advisory
  • Wind Advisory remains in effect until 10 PM PDT this evening
    • South to southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and power outages may result

California
Wind Advisory / Winter Storm Warning
  • Wind Advisory now in effect until 8 PM PDT Thursday
    • Southwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result
  • Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 8 AM this morning to 2 AM PDT Thursday 
    • Heavy snow expected above 4500 feet. Total snow accumulations of up to 2 feet
    • Winds gusting as high as 80 mph
    • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches

 

Nevada

Wind Advisory / Winter Storm Warning
  • Wind Advisory in effect rom 11 AM to 11 PM PDT Thursday 
    • Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected
    • Ridgetop wind could exceed 60 mph at times
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could result in tree limbs blown down and a few power outages. Sudden crosswinds over Highway 95 could result in dangerous travel for high profile vehicles
  • Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 5 PM this afternoon into Friday
    • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches below 7000 feet
      • 2 to 3 feet above 7000 feet likely
    • Winds gusting to 50 mph with Sierra ridge gusts above 80 mph
    • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult with long delays and possible highway closures over the Sierra. Strong winds and heavy snow accumulations could damage tree limbs and produce power outages

Wind Advisory
  • Wind Advisory in effect from 7 AM this morning to 7 PM CDT this evening 
    • South winds 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result


Minnesota

Winter Weather Advisory 
  • Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 7 AM this morning to 7 PM CDT this evening
    • Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches
    • Ice accumulations of a light glaze
    • Winds gusting as high as 35 mph
    • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute

Additional Flood Advisories include but not limited to the following: Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Illinois, North Dakota, and Minnesota
