U.S. Weather Update 4.2.24

Summary:
A substantial severe weather risk will exist Tuesday afternoon and evening across portions of the Ohio and Tennessee valleys and into the Mid-Atlantic states. Tornadoes, very large hail and damaging winds will be possible. Gusty winds and dry conditions will contribute to elevated to critical fire weather conditions over southwest Texas through the end of the week. Impacted Lanes: I-70, I-29, I-35, I-80, I-90, I-39, I-65, I-75, I-71, I-77, I-99, I-76, I-79, I-95, I-295, I-78, I-287, I-695


Wisconsin
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 PM CDT Wednesday afternoon

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 8 and 12 inches, with higher amounts to 14 inches possible in far northeast Wisconsin. Lesser accumulations possible near the lakeshore in Kewaunee and Manitowoc counties. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph, causing areas of blowing and drifting snow tonight into Wednesday.
  • Impacts: The strong winds and weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages. Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions will impact the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 PM CDT Wednesday afternoon

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 4 and 6 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph will produce areas of blowing and drifting snow tonight into Wednesday.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions will impact the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

Pennsylvania 
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 11:30 AM EDT this morning

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Water over roadways. 

Flood Watch remains in effect until 8 PM EDT this evening

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Ohio
Flood Warning remains in effect until 11 AM EDT this morning

  • Small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is occurring.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 11:45 AM EDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways. 

Flood Watch remains in effect until 8 PM EDT this evening

  • Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Water over roadways. 

New Jersey
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 7 AM EDT Wednesday morning

  • Up to one foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: Flooding begins on the most vulnerable roads in coastal and bayside communities, and along inland tidal waterways. Some partial or full road closures are possible.

New Mexico
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 3 PM EDT this  afternoon

  • North winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs may be blown down. Expect strong crosswinds on area roadways. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
