Weather Update 4.19.22

Summary: A Nor'easter will continue to bring gusty winds, heavy snow, heavy rain, coastal flooding, and rough seas to the Northeast U.S. into Tuesday night. Dry, gusty winds will continue critical fire weather conditions across the High Plains into the Southwest U.S. through Saturday. Two Pacific storm systems will bring coastal rain and mountain snow over the Northwest U.S. through most of this week.

Washington

Winter Weather Advisory
  • Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 8 AM PDT this morning above 3500 feet
    • Snow above 3500 feet. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches today
    • Where: Cascade mountains of Whatcom and Skagit Counties
    • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult
 
California
High Wind Warning / Winter Weather Advisory
  • High Wind Warning now in effect until 5 PM PDT this afternoon
    • West winds 30 to 50 mph with gusts over 70 mph possible
    • Gusts of 60-70 mph possible between 7000 and 9000 feet
    • Impacts: Damaging wind gusts could blow down trees and power lines. Power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult for any roadways in high elevation areas of the Sierra
  • Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 AM PDT this morning above 6500 feet
    • Snow. Total snow accumulations of up to 5 inches
      • Except 6 to 12 inches west of Highway 89 above 7000 feet
    • Ridge top winds will gust up to 100 mph
    • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. Very strong winds could cause tree damage. Possible snow covered roads and periods of reduced visibilities

 

Nevada

High Wind Warning / Winter Weather Advisory
  • High Wind Warning in effect until 9 PM PDT this evening 
    • Southwest winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts over 70 mph
    • Impacts: Damaging winds will likely blow down trees and damage power lines. Travel will be dangerous, especially for any high profile vehicles
  • Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 AM PDT this morning above 6500 feet
    • Snow. Total snow accumulations of up to 5 inches
      • 6 to 12 inches west of Highway 89 above 7000 feet
      • Ridge top winds will gust up to 100 mph
    • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions

 

Montana

High Wind Warning 
  • High Wind Warning in effect from 9 AM this morning to midnight MDT tonight 
    • West winds 35 to 45 mph, with gusts up to 70 mph, are expected
      • Wind gusts approaching 80 mph are possible in wind prone areas near the Rocky Mountain Front
    • Impacts: Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles

 

Utah

Wind Advisory
  • Wind Advisory remains in effect from noon today to 9 PM MDT this evening 
    • Southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected
    • Impacts: Travel may be difficult due to crosswinds, especially for high profile vehicles and vehicles with trailers. Expect rough conditions on all area lakes. Patchy blowing dust may limit visibility at times

 

Arizona

Wind Advisory
  • Wind Advisory remains in effect from 9 AM this morning to 9 PM MST this evening 
    • Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Areas of blowing dust may result in pockets of low visibility

 

New Mexico

Wind Advisory
  • Wind Advisory remains in effect from noon today to 7 PM MST this evening 
    • Southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected
    • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs may be blown down. Expect strong cross winds on area roadways. Localized areas of blowing dust may reduce visibility

 

North Dakota

Wind Advisory
  • Wind Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM CDT this afternoon
    • Southeast winds around 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected
    • Impacts: Travel may be difficult. The strong winds could create areas of drifting snow

 

South Dakota

Wind Advisory
  • Wind Advisory in effect from 10 AM this morning to 8 PM CDT this evening
    • Southeast winds 25 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result

 

Nebraska

Wind Advisory
  • Wind Advisory in effect from 10 AM this morning to 7 PM CDT this evening
    • Southeast winds 25 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. High profile vehicles will experience difficult travel conditions due to crosswinds

 

Kansas

Wind Advisory
  • Wind Advisory in effect from 10 AM this morning to 8 PM CDT this evening
    • Southeast winds 25 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.High profile vehicles may have difficulty in the high wind conditions, especially on east to west oriented roads

 

Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire

High Wind Warning
  • High Wind Warning remains in effect until 3 PM EDT this afternoon
    • Southeast winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph expected
    • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and powerlines. Numerous to widespread power outages are likely. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles

 

New York

Winter Storm Warning / Wind Advisory
  • Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 8 PM EDT this evening
    • Heavy wet snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 18 inches
    • Ice accumulations of a light glaze
    • Winds gusting as high as 30 to 40 mph
    • Impacts: Plan on hazardous road conditions with them impacting the morning commute. The heavy wet snow may bring down some tree limbs and cause power outages. Travel will be very difficult
  • Wind Advisory remains in effect form 10 AM this morning to 8 PM EDT this evening
    • West winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result

 

Pennsylvania 

Winter Storm Warning / Wind Advisory
  • Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until noon EDT today
    • Heavy mixed precipitation. Additional snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches
    • Ice accumulations of a light glaze
    • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute. Heavy, wet snow will lead to scattered power outages
  • Wind Advisory in effect from 10 AM this morning to 9 PM EDT this evening
    • West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph expected
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs will be more susceptible to being blown down due to the recent heavy snowfall.

 

West Virginia 

Winter Weather Advisory 
  • Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 2 PM EDT this afternoon
    • Snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to 3 inches
    • Winds gusting as high as 45 mph
    • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions
