U.S. Weather Update 4.17.24

Summary:
Scattered severe thunderstorms (Slight Risk Level 2 of 5) are possible Wednesday afternoon and evening from southern Lower Michigan into parts of the Midwest/Ohio Valley. A cold front sweeping across the north-central U.S. will bring additional heavy snow along the mountains and foothills of the northern Rockies into Thursday. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-15, I-94, I-25, I-20, I-55, I-22, I-65


Montana
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 AM MDT Thursday morning

  • Snow occurring. Additional snow accumulations up to two inches, highest over the higher terrain and along the foothills. Winds gusting as high as 30 mph.
  • Impacts: Slushy, slick roads could create hazardous driving conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact today's morning commute.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 AM MDT Thursday morning

  • Heavy snow occurring. Additional snow accumulations between 8 and 16 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph creating blowing snow.
  • Impacts: Heavy wet snow and gusty winds may cause tree and power line damage resulting in power outages. Recreation in the high country will be impacted by heavy accumulating snow and blowing snow at times. Travel could be very difficult to impossible.

Mississippi
Flood Warning remains in effect until 9 PM CDT Saturday evening

  • Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Water over roadways. 

North Dakota
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM CDT this evening

  • West to northwest winds gusting to 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
