U.S. Weather Update 4.17.23

Summary:
Heavy snow and gusty winds will continue across parts of the Upper Great Lakes due to a powerful spring storm. Meanwhile, snowmelt continues to produce flooding across the Upper Midwest and parts of the Intermountain West. A new system in the Northwest will bring rain, heavy mountain snow, and gusty winds. Elevated to critical fire weather threats continue in the south and central High Plains. Impacted Lanes: I-84, I-90, I-94, I-39, I-41, I-43, I-75


Wisconsin
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 PM CDT this afternoon

  • Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning commute.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 PM CDT this afternoon

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations up to one inch. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
  • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions will impact the Monday morning commute.

Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening

  • Blizzard conditions. Additional snow accumulations of 6 to 13 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. 

Montana
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM MDT Tuesday afternoon

  • Small stream flooding caused by snowmelt is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Some low-water crossings may become impassable.

North Dakota
Flood Warning remains in effect until 4 PM CDT Friday afternoon

  • Flooding caused by snowmelt continues.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.

Nevada
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 11:59 PM PDT this evening

  • Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. A few power outages are possible. Crosswinds will be most prevalent along north to south routes and roadways. This may make travel difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
