U.S. Weather Update 4.16.24

Summary:
There is an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) for severe thunderstorms Tuesday with threats for significant severe hail and tornado potential over southern Iowa into northern Missouri and west-central Illinois. Elevated to critical fire weather is possible Tuesday due to gusty winds and dry conditions over parts of the southern High Plains and northeastern Montana. Impacted Lanes: I-94, I-29, I-35, I-90, I-80, I-25, I-70, I-29, I-20, I-85


Nebraska
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 11 AM CDT this morning

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

 Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10:30 AM CDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water may be over roadways.

 Wind Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM CDT this evening

  • East winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 8 PM CDT this evening

  • Northwest winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 70 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Strong northwesterly winds will create dangerous travel conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles. Reductions in visibility associated with blowing dust, where present, will locally exacerbate already dangerous driving conditions.

Montana
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 AM MDT Thursday morning

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 5 inches.
  • Impacts: Slushy, slick roads could create hazardous driving conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday morning and evening commutes.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 12:15 PM MDT Thursday afternoon

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 6 and 10 inches.
  • Impacts: Roads will likely become slushy, slick and hazardous. Travel could be difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday morning and evening commutes.

Alabama
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM CDT this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less at times in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.
