U.S. Weather Update 4.11.24

Summary:
Strong to severe thunderstorms capable of producing a few tornadoes, heavy rain and damaging winds will continue through tonight across the Southeast. Heavy to excessive rainfall may lead to flash, urban and minor to moderate river flooding especially along the Florida Panhandle. In Alaska, a strong Bering storm will continue to produce blizzard conditions across the Southwest through Thursday. Impacted Lanes: I-75, I-5, I-405, I-8, I-40, I-555, I-22, I-65, I-59, I-10, I-295, I-95, I-69, I-469, I-80, I-90


Georgia
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10:45 AM EDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways. 

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM EDT this evening

  • Southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 10 AM EDT this morning

  • Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding.
  • Impacts: Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

Flood Warning remains in effect until 11:30 AM EDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Water over roadways. 

Flood Watch remains in effect until 2 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Water over roadways is possible. 

Tennessee
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM CDT this evening

  • Northwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 4 PM EDT this afternoon

  • South winds 40 to 50 mph with gusts up to 75 mph.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

New Jersey
Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 5 AM EDT Friday morning

  • One to two feet of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: At this level, widespread roadway flooding occurs in coastal and bayside communities and along inland tidal waterways. Many roads become impassable. Some damage to vulnerable structures may begin to occur.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 2 AM EDT Friday morning

  • Up to one foot of inundation above ground level expected in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in the more vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline. Some roads and low lying properties near the waterfront will experience minor flooding.

California 
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PDT this morning

  • Visibility of one-quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions in dense fog on portions of Interstate 5, 405, western I-8 and Highway 163.

Additional Coastal Flood Warnings include but are not limited to: Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Florida 

Additional Coastal Flood Advisories include but are not limited to: Maryland, North Carolina, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Florida, and Virginia

Additional Wind Advisories include but are not limited to: Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, South Carolina, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New York
