U.S. Weather Update 3.4.24

Summary:
The snow and high winds along the Sierra Nevada and the Intermountain West is gradually waning. The threat of wildfires persist in the High Plains. Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible in portions of the Southern Great Plains into the Lower/Mid-Mississippi Valley on Monday, in addition to locally heavy rain in the central Gulf Coast. Impacted Lanes: I-90, I-5, I-84, I-86, I-15, I-80, I-40, I-70, I-35, I-10, I-45, I-49, I-55, I-59, I-65, I-75, I-95


California
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 4 PM PST Tuesday evening

  • Heavy snow Above 3500 ft. Additional snow accumulations of 5 to 8 inches. Most of the snow is expected to fall this afternoon and evening, then snow levels slowly rise tonight and early Tuesday.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM PST this morning

  • West winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 55 mph.
  • Impacts: Difficult driving conditions, especially for larger vehicles traveling along roads with crosswinds. Light, unsecured objects may become airborne. Minor tree damage possible.

Wyoming
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 11 AM MST Tuesday morning

  • West to southwest winds 35 to 45 MPH with gusts up to 65 MPH possible.
  • Impacts: Mainly to transportation. Strong cross winds will be hazardous to light weight or high profile vehicles, including campers and tractor trailers.

North Dakota
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 12 PM CST today

  • Blowing snow. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
  • Impacts: Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Monday morning commute.

Mississippi
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM CST this morning 

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.
