U.S. Weather Update 3.27.24

Summary:
Strong to severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds will continue to move across the Midwest and eastern Gulf Coast this evening. Heavy snow and blizzard conditions have diminished across the Upper Great Lakes however, lingering snow accumulations are likely through tonight. Impacted Lanes: I-80, I-5, I-90, I-82, I-84, I-65, I-20, I-16, I-95, I-10, I-75, I-77, I-40, I-81, I-695


California
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 AM PDT Thursday morning

  • Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 18 inches, up to 2 to 2.5 feet at the highest peaks. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult from delays, snow- covered roads, and chain controls. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM PDT Thursday afternoon

  • Snow expected above 7000 feet. Total snow accumulations of 7 to 14 inches. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph on exposed ridgetops and along the crest.
  • Impacts: Travel will be difficult due to slick, snow covered roads and possible road closures. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM PDT this evening

  • Southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

Wyoming
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 9 AM MDT Thursday morning

  • Southwest winds 35 to 40 MPH with gusts up to 60 MPH possible.
  • Impacts: Mainly to transportation. Strong cross winds will be hazardous to light weight or high profile vehicles, including campers and tractor trailers.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 PM MDT Thursday evening

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Virginia
Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 11 AM EDT this morning

  • Up to one foot of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: Water will be 1 to 2 feet above ground level in some areas resulting in a sufficient depth to close numerous roads and threaten homes and businesses. Flooding will extend inland from the waterfront along tidal rivers and bays resulting in some road closures and flooding of vehicles.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 3 PM EDT this afternoon

  • Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level in low lying areas due to tidal flooding.
  • Impacts: Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected.

Flood Watch remains in effect until 8 PM EDT Thursday evening

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Water over roadways is expected. 

New Jersey
Flood Warning remains in effect until 12 PM EDT today

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Water over roadway.

Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 4  PM EDT this afternoon

  • Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level in low- lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected.

Missouri
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 10:15 AM CDT this morning 

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadway.

Arizona
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM MST this morning 

  • Visibility a quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.
