Weather Update 3.25.22

Summary: Gusty winds will impact the Northern Plains and portions of the Upper Midwest. Those winds partnered with very dry conditions will result in elevated to critical fire weather conditions across portions of the north-central Plains. Record warmth is possible in portions of the West. Conversely, areas in the Eastern U.S. will experience temps 10-20 degrees below normal through early next week.

North Dakota

Wind Advisory / Flood Warning 
  • Wing Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening
    • Northwest winds to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected
    • Impact: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Visibility less than a mile for a very brief period will be possible where winds combine with snow showers
  • Flood Warning for snowmelt remains in effect until further notice 
    • Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast
    • Where: Stretching along eastern border

 

South Dakota

Wind Advisory
  • Wind Advisory remains in effect from 10 AM this morning to 7 PM CDT this evening
    • Northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected
    • Sudden wind gusts can cause drivers to lose control, especially in lightweight or high profile vehicles. Strong winds can cause blowing dust, reduced visibility, and flying debris

 

Nebraska

Wind Advisory
  • Wind Advisory remains in effect from 10 AM this morning to 7 PM CDT this evening
    • Northwest winds 25 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected
    • Sudden wind gusts can cause drivers to lose control, especially in lightweight or high profile vehicles. Strong winds can cause blowing dust, reduced visibility, and flying debris

 

Minnesota 

Wind Advisory / Flood Warning
  • Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening
    • Northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Visibility less than a mile for a very brief period will be possible where winds combine with snow showers
  • Flood Warning for snowmelt remains in effect until further notice
    • Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast
    • Where: South Dakota, Minnesota border

 

Iowa

Wind Advisory
  • Wind Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM this morning to 7 PM CDT this evening
    • Northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles

 

Illinois

Wind Advisory
  •  Wind Advisory remains in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 10 PM CDT this evening
    • Northwest winds 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected
    • Afternoon and early evening rain and snow showers may dramatically lower visibilities and bring a quick gust of over 55 mph
    • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Also, travel could be difficult in high profile vehicles
  • Flood Warning for snowmelt remains in effect until further notice
    • Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast
    • Where: South Dakota, Minnesota border

 

Maine

Winter Weather Advisory
  • Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM EDT this afternoon
    • Mixed precipitation. Additional snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches
      • Storm total accumulations of 4 to 8 inches
    • Sleet accumulations of up to one half of an inch
    • Ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch
    • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute

 

Michigan

Winter Weather Advisory
  • Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 2 PM EDT this afternoon into Saturday
    • Freezing rain expected. Additional flat ice accumulations of up to a tenth of an inch
      • Isolated amounts of up to a quarter inch possible above 1000 ft
    • Winds gusting as high as 40 mph
    • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions
       

Additional Flood Advisories include but not limited to: Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Indiana, and Ohio

  • Flood Advisories effective until further notice

    • Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast
