U.S. Weather Update 3.24.23

Summary:
Widespread heavy rain and flash flooding is possible across the Mid-Mississippi Valley and Ohio Valley through Friday night along a slow-moving cold front. South of this front will be a severe weather threat from the Southern Plains, the Mid-South, and Lower Mississippi Valley to the Ohio Valley. Chilly temperatures and heavy mountain snowfall will persist for parts of the West. Impacted Lanes: I-5, I-90, I-84, I-86, I-15, I-80, I-35, I-40, I-44, I-30, I-55, I-69, I-57, I-64, I-165, I-65, I-74, I-77, I-75, I-71, I-270, I-68


Oregon
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 AM PDT Saturday morning

  • Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations of 4 to 12 inches above 1000 feet with the highest snow amounts above 2000-2500 feet. Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches or less below 1000 feet. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 2 PM PDT this afternoon

  • Heavy Snow. Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 6 inches.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the commute this evening and Friday morning.

Texas
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 9 PM MDT this evening

  • West winds 30 to 39 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel may be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 9 PM CDT this evening

  • West winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Florida
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 11 AM EDT this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

Arkansas
Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 11:30 AM CDT this morning

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. 
  • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Flood Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM CDT this afternoon

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. 

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 3 AM CDT Saturday morning

  • South winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to over 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Driving on east west oriented roadways could become difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Flood Warning remains in effect until 3 AM CDT Tuesday morning 

  • Moderate flooding caused by excessive rainfall in forecast.
  • Impacts: At 18.0 feet, Farmland flooded. County roads flooded. Water may be over portions of State Highway 90. At 20.0 feet, Numerous road closings and extensive agricultural acreage inundated.
