Weather Update 3.24.22

Summary: A few strong/severe storms will be possible through midday Friday over parts of the Mid-Atlantic region, extending southward along the Atlantic Coast, and during the afternoon over parts of Florida. A wintry mix may result in some ice accumulation across portions of New England. Record warmth is expected through this weekend across portions of the West.

Impacted: I-87, I-89, I-91, I-93, I-95

Major lanes of concern

  • Interstate 87 from Saratoga Springs, New York, to the New York-Canada border
  • Interstate 89 from Montpelier, Vermont, to Concord, New Hampshire
  • Interstate 91 from Springfield, Massachusetts, to the New York-Canada border
  • Interstate 93 from Concord to the Interstate 91 junction
  • Interstate 95 from the Maine-Canada border to Miami

 

 

North Dakota

Wind Advisory / Flood Warning 
  • Wing Advisory remains in effect from 11 AM CDT this morning in to Friday
    • Northwest winds to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected
    • Impact: Sudden wind gusts can cause drivers to lose control, especially in lightweight or high profile vehicles. Strong winds can cause blowing dust, reduced visibility, and flying debris
  • Flood Warning for snowmelt remains in effect until further notice 
    • Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast
    • Where: Stretching along eastern border

 

South Dakota

Wind Advisory
  • Wind Advisory is in effect from noon today to 9 PM MDT this evening
    • Northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected
    • Sudden wind gusts can cause drivers to lose control, especially in lightweight or high profile vehicles. Strong winds can cause blowing dust, reduced visibility, and flying debris

 

New York 

Winter Weather Advisory
  • Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon EDT today
    • Freezing rain mixed with rain at higher elevation above 1000 feet
    • Additional flat ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch
    • Winds gusting as high as 35 mph
    • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions

 

Vermont 

Winter Weather Advisory
  • Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 2 PM EDT this afternoon
    • Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of up to one inch
    • Ice accumulations of a trace to a few hundredths of an inch
    • Winds gusting as high as 40 mph
    • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions

 

New Hampshire 

Winter Weather Advisory
  • Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 2 PM EDT this afternoon
    • Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow and sleet accumulations up to one inch
    • Total ice accumulations around one tenth of an inch at lower elevations
      • Up to one third of an inch between 1 and 3 thousand feet
    • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions

 

Maine

Winter Weather Advisory
  • Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EDT this morning into Friday
    • Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches
    • Sleet accumulations of around one quarter of an inch
    • Ice accumulations of a light glaze expected
    • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult

 

Massachusetts 

Winter Weather Advisory
  • Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 2 PM EDT this afternoon
    • Freezing rain expected. Additional flat ice accumulations of up to a tenth of an inch
      • Isolated amounts of up to a quarter inch possible above 1000 ft
    • Winds gusting as high as 40 mph
    • Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions
