U.S. Weather Update 3.15.24

Summary:
Large damaging hail, wind gusts, and a few tornadoes remain a threat from far northeast Texas to the Ohio Valley overnight. Heavy snow will continue across portions of the central Rockies and extend into the southern Rockies overnight. A second round of heavy snow will develop over the Four Corners region tonight, continuing into the weekend. Impacted Lanes: I-25, I-15, I-80, I-70, I-40, I-10, I-8, I-17, I-49, I-20, I-55, I-59, I-65, I-90, I-271, I-71, I-77


Arkansas
Flash Flood Warning  remains in effect until 10 AM CDT this morning

  • Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
  • Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Colorado
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 PM MDT this evening

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches, with higher amounts of up to 13 inches possible for elevations above 10000 feet.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 AM MDT Saturday morning

  • Snow. Additional snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches with locally higher amounts possible. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM MDT this evening

  • Southeast winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

California
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 PM PDT this evening

  • Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to 5 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph. Total snow accumulations of 2 inches or less below 5500 feet, 4 to 8 inches from 5500 to 6500 feet, and 8 to 12 inches above 6500 feet with locally greater amounts.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 5 PM PDT this evening

  • Northeast winds 40 to 55 mph with gusts up to 75 mph possible. Strongest winds above 4000 feet.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM PDT this evening

  • North winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

Alabama
Flood Warning remains in effect until 10:30 AM CDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall.

Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM CDT this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.

Wyoming
Freezing Fog Advisory remains in effect until 12:15 PM MDT this afternoon

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in freezing fog.
  • Impacts: Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous.
