U.S. Weather Update 3.14.24

Summary:
A winter storm will spread heavy snow tonight across the Central Rockies, including the Denver Metro, through Friday. Scattered severe thunderstorms are expected to peak in intensity this evening and persist on an isolated basis overnight, from parts of northern/central Kansas east towards the Lower Missouri Valley. Impacted Lanes: I-5, I-80, I-680, I-280, I-15, I-40, I-10, I-11, I-25, I-70, I-76, I-44, I-72, I-55, I-57, I-65


Wyoming 
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 AM MDT Thursday morning

  • Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 2 feet. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 AM MDT Thursday morning

  • Periods of Snow expected. Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches, lowest in the Laramie Valley. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

California
High Wind Warning remains in effect until 6 PM PDT this evening

  • North winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts to 70 mph. Isolated gusts to 90 mph on the coastal mountain slopes near the Cajon Pass and below the Cajon Pass.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM PDT this evening

  • North winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 

Illinois
Flood Advisory remains in effect until 11 AM CDT this morning

  • Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
  • Impacts: Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Underpasses may be flooded. Roads and streets may be flooded.

Florida
Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 AM EDT this morning

  • Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.
  • Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility.
