U.S. Weather Update 3.13.24

Summary:
Widespread Critical to Extremely Critical fire weather conditions are likely across portions of the Southern and Central Plains. Heavy snow will begin to develop over parts of the Central Rockies Wednesday afternoon into evening. Severe thunderstorms capable of large to very large hail and a tornado or two are possible across the Lower Missouri Valley. Impacted Lanes: I-5, I-15, I-40, I-10, I-17, I-25, I-70, I-80, I-90


Wyoming
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 AM MDT Friday morning

  • Heavy snow and some blowing snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 10 to 16 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning and evening commutes.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 AM MDT Friday morning

  • Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches with up to 14 inches at elevations above 8000 feet in the North Laramie Range. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Hazardous travel conditions due to icy and snow packed roads. Outdoor recreation may be difficult with low visibilities and falling snow.

California
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 1 AM PDT Thursday morning

  • North winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down large objects such as trees and power lines. Power outages are expected. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

High Wind Warning remains in effect until 6 PM PDT Thursday evening

  • Northeast winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts to 75 mph expected. Isolated gusts to 100 mph for inland Orange County below the coastal slopes of the Santa Ana Mountains and near and below the Cajon Pass.
  • Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Delaware
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 5 AM EDT Thursday morning

  • Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
  • Impacts: At this level, flooding begins on the most vulnerable roads along tidal waterways. Some partial or full road closures are possible.
